Episode 32. Awards Ceremony (3)
After some time passed.
With the trembling heartbeats of the people, the curtain of the Entertainment Awards Ceremony finally rose.
It was an Entertainment Awards Ceremony hosted by BLT, one of the three major broadcasting companies, and it was even older than Kang Dae-oh.
Perhaps it was because it was an awards ceremony that boasted history and tradition.
The scale of the event itself was definitely extraordinary.
‘It’s as good as any concert hall.’
Normally, Kang Dae-oh would have been just an ordinary spectator who came to watch a concert.
However, today Kang Dae-oh came here as a participant.
The goal was to win the ‘Program of the Year’ award, which PD Kwak Jong-soo of ‘Yoratdae’ first mentioned.
For that, the production team had already prepared all the placards to be used at the awards ceremony.
Once the award was confirmed, they planned to go up together, unfurl the placards, and deliver their acceptance speeches.
Would such a moment truly come to them?
‘We’ll have to wait and see.’
Kang Dae-oh suddenly came up with an idea.
A sure way to know in advance whether they would win an award or not suddenly flashed through his mind.
Kang Dae-oh’s action of reaching out to Kang Yeyoung suddenly stopped.
Just as he was about to quietly withdraw his hand as if nothing had happened.
As if sensing his presence, Kang Yeyoung looked up at her dad and tilted her head.
“Why, Dad?”
“Huh? No……”
He originally didn’t intend to say anything.
But fearing Kang Yeyoung would keep wondering, Kang Dae-oh reluctantly lowered his voice and mentioned why he had tried to call his youngest daughter.
It was sensitive information that others shouldn’t hear.
“Because you came from the future. I was going to ask if you roughly know the results of today’s awards ceremony, but then I realized that the program ‘Yoratdae’ itself wouldn’t have existed in the future world you were in. So I stopped myself from asking.”
Because Kang Yeyoung, who regressed, exists, the current ‘Yoratdae’ can exist.
But in the previous world, Kang Yeyoung would have lived the life of an ordinary child.
Then, naturally, there would be no ‘Yoratdae’.
Kang Yeyoung nodded several times, confirming that Kang Dae-oh’s guess was accurate.
“That’s right. Originally… as far as I roughly remember, a reality observation variety show was supposed to receive the Program of the Year award this year. But since ‘Yoratdae’ exists, I’m not sure what will happen either.”
Things like real estate prices, etc., might not be much different from the future.
However, in the entertainment industry, where the three daughters are directly involved, their actions often cause a butterfly effect, leading to unexpected events like now.
Ultimately, one cannot know all of the future.
However, Kang Dae-oh didn’t mind much.
Rather, sometimes not knowing made things more exciting.
Like now.
At the ongoing Entertainment Awards Ceremony, several singer groups appeared in between to perform congratulatory stages.
Among them was a stage by singer Harin, who had recorded an animation theme song with Kang Yera when she was young.
Originally, she was part of an idol group named Serbi.
However, three years ago, she left the group and is now pursuing a solo career, just like Kang Yera.
This also came true, just as Kang Yera had predicted.
‘I wonder if Harin remembers me.’
Because it was such a long time ago.
There’s a possibility she might not remember.
No, the probability of that is rather high.
After Harin’s congratulatory stage ended.
The BLT Entertainment Awards Ceremony took a short break.
During that time, Kang Dae-oh quickly went to the restroom and returned to his designated seat.
It was then.
“Abeonim!”
Singer Harin came to Kang Dae-oh first.
“It’s been too long, Abeonim. You remember me, right?”
“Oh, of course I remember. You recorded a song with Yera, didn’t you? I actually heard about it from Yera. She said you sometimes meet at music shows and such.”
“Yes, that’s right. Last week, I met Yera and we talked. She’s become so beautiful. Of course, she was pretty when she was little too.”
Despite the passage of time, Harin also still boasted a blooming beauty.
Just then, Kang Yeyoung, who had left her seat, quietly returned to the table.
Kang Dae-oh said it was good timing and introduced his youngest daughter to Harin.
“This is Yeyoung, my youngest daughter.”
“I know her. I’m a subscriber to Yeyoung’s Nutube channel.”
“Oh, really?”
At the mention of ‘subscribe,’ Kang Yeyoung broke into a bright smile as if she hadn’t just been wondering.
“Thank you, sunbaenim! I’ll work hard!”
“You’re already working hard enough. Anyway, Yera and Yeyoung are definitely sisters. I can see similarities.”
At the mention of ‘similarities,’ Kang Yeyoung’s eyebrow twitched for a moment.
However, fortunately, Harin seemed to not notice Kang Yeyoung’s subtle discomfort at all.
“Then I’ll see you again later, Abeonim. Yeyoung, do your best today too. Fighting!”
“Yes, sunbaenim! You’ve worked hard!”
Kang Dae-oh, along with Kang Yeyoung, greeted Harin and let her go.
Kang Yeyoung, who had sat back down, took out a hand mirror with a puzzled expression.
“Dad. Yera unnie and I. Do we look alike?”
“Well, rather than looking alike, it’s more about the atmosphere or something like that. I think that’s what she meant by ‘similar’.”
“Really? I don’t know.”
“I wouldn’t know by looking at myself. But others might subtly sense it.”
Kang Dae-oh had also often noticed that the sisters exuded a similar aura, though he hadn’t said anything.
Perhaps what Harin felt was something like this.
Kang Dae-oh thought so.
With Harin’s encouragement.
The Entertainment Awards Ceremony was now slowly heading into its latter half.
The fact that the awards ceremony was rushing towards its conclusion meant.
It also meant that the identities of the main characters who would win major awards would gradually be revealed.
Among these, what Kang Dae-oh was particularly focused on was, without a doubt, the Program of the Year award.
Just then, the host mentioned the award that the ‘Yoratdae’ staff had eagerly awaited.
“Please meet the nominees for the ‘Program of the Year’ award, given to the best program of the year!”
Following the MC’s shout, the nominated programs were quickly introduced through a video.
Among them, ‘Yoratdae’ was included, just as expected.
There were a total of seven nominees.
Even if we set aside the other programs.
“I think ‘Omniscient Observation Point’ might be a strong contender for the win.”
The main writer of ‘Yoratdae’ said, swallowing dryly.
‘Omniscient Observation Point’ was a popular observational variety show that observed celebrities’ private lives 24 hours a day, and it was known to have had a profound influence on this type of program, thus possessing great influence.
Kang Dae-oh didn’t particularly enjoy watching it, but his acquaintances, including his friend Oh Myung-woon, often watched it.
Sometimes, at drinking gatherings, discussions would even arise about who appeared as a guest on ‘Omniscient Observation Point’ that week.
‘Yoratdae’ was directly confronting a popular program.
Along with the doo-goo-doo-goo sound of drums, their tension also rose.
After a long wait, where one minute felt like an hour.
Finally, the host revealed the identity of the ultimate winner.
“The Program of the Year award! The winner is… ‘Yoratdae’! Congratulations!”
As ‘Yoratdae’ was called, all the staff, including Kang Dae-oh, sprang to their feet.
They had secretly hoped to win the award.
But now that they had actually received such a big award, their minds went blank.
At this moment, the veteran Kang Yeyoung took her dad’s hand and led him forward.
“Let’s go up quickly, Dad.”
“Ah, okay.”
When they walked the red carpet, Kang Dae-oh had escorted Kang Yeyoung.
Now, the situation was completely reversed.
Kang Dae-oh went on stage, holding his youngest daughter’s hand.
If he had gone up there alone.
‘I would have frozen and couldn’t say a word.’
Fortunately, since it was an award they received together, it was enough for Kang Dae-oh to just show appropriate reactions.
PD Kwak Jong-soo stood in front of the standing microphone as their representative.
“There are so many people I want to thank through this opportunity. But among them, there are some people I especially want to express my gratitude to……”
PD Kwak’s gaze turned towards Kang Dae-oh and Kang Yeyoung.
“They are CEO Kang Dae-oh and Ms. Kang Yeyoung, who are here. Honestly, if it weren’t for them, the current ‘Yoratdae’ probably wouldn’t exist. Then we wouldn’t have had this glorious moment of coming up here as a group to receive an award.”
It was as PD Kwak said.
If Kang Dae-oh and Kang Yeyoung hadn’t filmed the video content that became the beginning of ‘Yoratdae’ on Nutube.
The program ‘Yoratdae’ would not have been born.
“I would like to thank these two once again, and I will keep my acceptance speech short. Please continue to give ‘Yoratdae’ much attention and love in the future. We promise to bring you even more entertaining programs! Thank you!”
Everyone rose to their feet and applauded his concise acceptance speech.
In fact, from PD Kwak’s perspective, this award was bound to be special.
And for good reason. It was the first award he had received as a PD in nearly 10 years.
Given this, it was natural for him to have a great attachment to ‘Yoratdae’.
After receiving the award, they calmed their trembling hearts and returned to their seats.
Since they had won the ‘Program of the Year’ award they had so longed for.
‘Now I can proudly go home.’
Since he could now boast freely to his wife and daughters.
His heart felt much lighter.
However, it was too early to let their guard down.
A moment later.
The host mentioned the next award category.
“Let’s meet the nominees for the Newcomer Award. Please show them!”
The nominees for the Entertainment Newcomer Award began to be revealed one by one.
But.
Something was strange.
Among them, the last nominee, in particular, stood out.
Kang Dae-oh, upon checking the last introduced nominee, doubted his eyes.
It was because of his identity.
[Kang Dae-oh (Yoratdae)]
“……Huh?”
Kang Dae-oh stared at the screen with a bewildered expression.
A total of eight nominees for the Newcomer Award were revealed, and he never imagined that he would be among them.
Kang Yeyoung, seemingly not having expected this either, covered her mouth with both hands and repeatedly exclaimed, “Daebak!”
“Dad! Are you winning the Newcomer Award?”
“Th-That can’t be. There are many funnier people than me. They’ll probably win it, won’t they?”
Kang Dae-oh had merely appeared on broadcast, diligently drinking coffee while visiting cafes.
He had only added a camera to something he already loved doing.
It was virtually unbelievable that he could aim for the Newcomer Award with just that.
However, an even more unbelievable event unfolded in reality.
“The Newcomer Award! The winner is… Kang Dae-oh! Congratulations!”
An unexpected miracle had occurred.
