Episode 46. Parents’ Day (1)
The Kang Dae-oh family safely finished another day.
As a celebration of the family gathering for dinner after a long time, Min Seung-yeon brought out something she had been saving.
“Ta-da~!”
What she held in her hand was a red wine wrapped in stylish packaging.
“I wanted to drink this. How about a glass each?”
Kang Dae-oh instinctively looked towards Kang Yeyoung.
Then Kang Yeyoung said with a meaningful smile.
“Dad. I’m an adult now too.”
“Oh, right, you are.”
Following Kang Yebin, Kang Yeyoung also graduated from high school and proudly became an adult.
Thanks to this, Min Seung-yeon was able to take out the red wine she had been saving carefully.
However, contrary to her mother’s expectations, Kang Yebin cleared her throat and asked for understanding first.
“Sorry, Mom. I have something I need to do right away… I’ll get up first.”
While getting up, Kang Yebin gave Kang Yeyoung a look.
At that moment, Kang Yeyoung, with a look of sudden realization, clapped her hands and said with an awkward expression.
“Oh, right! There was a video the editor asked me to check by today. I’ll go do that.”
“I-is that so? This is delicious, though.”
Min Seung-yeon clearly showed her disappointment.
At this moment, Kang Yera told her not to worry and sided with her mother.
“I’ll stay and drink with you…”
“Unnie, you come too.”
“Me too? Why!”
Kang Yebin and Kang Yeyoung each grabbed their eldest unnie’s right and left arms, forcibly making her get up.
How should I put it?
To an outsider, it might have looked like she was being escorted away.
Min Seung-yeon looked at her daughters quickly leaving the table with a bewildered expression.
“Why are the kids like that?”
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t happen to know anything, do you?”
Kang Dae-oh shook his head.
However, one thing was clear.
‘It seems like they deliberately avoided the situation.’
It seemed certain that the daughters were plotting something behind their mom’s and dad’s backs.
Leaving their mom and dad behind, the three daughters quietly returned to a room.
There was no need to ponder whose room they should go into.
Although it was a slight difference, Kang Yebin’s room was the largest among the three sisters, so they headed in that direction.
While Kang Yeyoung closed the room door, Kang Yera expressed strong dissatisfaction.
“Why suddenly, again? Do you have something to tell me?”
Even at this moment, Kang Yera pondered if she had done anything recently that her younger sisters might have been upset about.
However, no matter how much she tried to recall, she hadn’t done such a thing.
Kang Yeyoung let out a short sigh and began to explain why she. No, why they had done this.
“Unnie. Do you know what day next Thursday is?”
“Next Thursday?”
“Judging by your reaction, you don’t seem to know.”
“Thursday is May 8th… Ah!”
Only after checking the date did Kang Yera suddenly realize something significant.
“It’s Parents’ Day!”
“That’s a relief. It seems you know that much.”
“You’re openly treating this unnie like a fool. Did you think I wouldn’t know something like that?”
“You didn’t know until just now, though.”
“……”
At Kang Yeyoung’s sharp retort, Kang Yera was momentarily speechless.
In the middle, Kang Yebin cleared her throat, drawing the attention of both of them to herself.
“Last Parents’ Day, unnie, me, and Yeyoung, you too. All three of us were so busy that we couldn’t properly take care of Mom and Dad. So this time, we want to give them something special, including what we couldn’t do last year.”
This was the main reason for having this meeting today.
It was a topic that had already been shared that morning. However, only Kang Yebin and Kang Yeyoung had caught on first.
“It looks like unnie came without much thought.”
An awkward smile clearly settled on Kang Yera’s face.
Because it was exactly as Kang Yebin had pointed out.
“What about Yebin unnie?”
“Well, for me… I think it would be a good idea for us to book a nice restaurant somewhere and create a setting for Mom and Dad to have a private meal together.”
This Parents’ Day too, they had schedules, making it difficult to gather all together like today.
But simply letting it pass like last year felt a bit off.
Even if they couldn’t gather together, they hoped it would be a special Parents’ Day for their mom and dad.
“Yeyoung, do you have a schedule then too?”
“Yeah. I have a recording on that day… Wait a minute.”
While talking, Kang Yeyoung’s eyes suddenly lit up.
“I think I’m a genius. I just came up with an amazing idea.”
“What kind of idea?”
The unnies showed deep interest in Kang Yeyoung’s words.
“Hehehe,” Kang Yeyoung, letting out a strange laugh, said this.
“I’ve come up with a brilliant plan that can celebrate both our schedules and Parents’ Day at the same time.”
May 5th, Children’s Day.
It was one of the indispensable days in May, known as the Month of Family.
Although Kang Dae-oh’s three daughters were now past the age to be called children.
Still, once a child, always my child.
So, whether children should be considered based on age didn’t matter much to Kang Dae-oh and Min Seung-yeon.
“This is pocket money that Mom and Dad specially prepared because it’s Children’s Day. Use it for whatever you want.”
Kang Dae-oh, on behalf of Min Seung-yeon who hadn’t returned from work yet, handed out pocket money envelopes to the children one by one.
In fact, he had thought a lot while making the pocket money envelopes.
It wasn’t like his daughters didn’t have money.
So, the thought, ‘Would pocket money even have any meaning?’ had briefly dominated Kang Dae-oh’s mind.
However, even if it’s the same money, the money you earn yourself and the money your mom and dad give you have different meanings.
Knowing that, Kang Dae-oh diligently pushed forward with making the pocket money envelopes.
Fortunately, the daughters showed great joy upon receiving the pocket money envelopes that Kang Dae-oh had prepared with his wife.
“Thank you, Dad.”
“I’ll use it well!”
“Please make sure to tell Mom thank you too.”
“Okay, I got it.”
Just seeing his daughters’ happy faces made Kang Dae-oh proud.
Kang Yeyoung, who had taken her pocket money envelope, asked Kang Dae-oh about his Thursday schedule.
“Dad. Are you busy this Thursday?”
“Thursday? No, not really. Why?”
“Then could you spare some time for me? I want to film a video, and I definitely need Mom’s and Dad’s help.”
“Did you tell Mom beforehand?”
“Yes. She said okay.”
“In that case, I should help too.”
Not going to work for about a day wouldn’t cause much trouble.
And since Kang Dae-oh was the company’s CEO, he didn’t have to worry about what anyone thought.
If he felt like resting today, he could just rest.
Instead, it was always better to contact Executive Director Yoo In-seok or the secretarial team.
Because if he was absent without notice, they would worry.
“But what kind of filming is it?”
He asked Kang Yeyoung about the content.
But the answer he received wasn’t very clear from Kang Dae-oh’s perspective.
“I’ll tell you when we get there.”
What kind of filming required Kang Dae-oh’s and Min Seung-yeon’s help?
For now, there was no way to know the true nature of Kang Yeyoung’s secret plan.
May 8th, morning.
Kang Dae-oh, with Min Seung-yeon, entered the destination address sent by Kang Yeyoung into the navigation system.
Upon arriving near the destination with the car, a man waiting at the entrance recognized Kang Dae-oh’s car and approached.
“Hello, CEO Kang Dae-oh! Yeyoung-ssi asked me to tell you where to park the car when you arrive. You can valet park the car with the hotel staff here.”
The man, introduced as a hotel staff member, kindly explained to Kang Dae-oh.
“You can leave your car keys and just get out with your luggage. I’ll take care of the rest.”
“Ah, yes.”
Kang Dae-oh and Min Seung-yeon got out of the car with bewildered expressions.
The address Kang Yeyoung had sent them was Eligna, the most famous hotel in Seoul.
It was a super tall building over 100 floors, and though not often, Kang Dae-oh had come here exactly twice for meals.
So, when he first received the address from Kang Yeyoung, he did suspect, ‘Could it be Eligna?’
This suspicion soon turned into certainty.
“Please follow me.”
A staff member guided the two.
There, numerous camera crew staff members who filmed video content with Kang Yeyoung were gathered.
Some staff members who were somewhat acquainted with Kang Dae-oh and Min Seung-yeon were also visible.
“Oh, CEO Kang, CEO Min! You’ve arrived.”
Even if Kang Dae-oh was used to being called ‘CEO’,
Min Seung-yeon still looked awkward hearing such titles.
Coincidentally, both Kang Yeyoung’s mom and dad joined this place as CEOs.
Since they had come here after receiving an SOS request from Kang Yeyoung for filming, they somewhat expected the crowd of staff members.
However, the meeting place was a bit unusual.
Just then, Kang Yeyoung was seen approaching from afar.
“Yeyoung-ah.”
“Oh my, you’re here?”
Kang Yeyoung approached the two with quick steps.
“What kind of filming did you call Mom and Dad for today?”
It was a question asked with the implication, ‘You can tell us now, right?’
Kang Yeyoung also nodded as if she knew what Kang Dae-oh was trying to say.
“Today is Parents’ Day, you know.”
“That’s right.”
“So, I had been discussing something with Eligna…”
Kang Yeyoung looked at Kang Dae-oh and Min Seung-yeon alternately and replied.
“Today, I was thinking of filming a video as a ‘Filial Piety Special’.”
Kang Dae-oh and Min Seung-yeon had a lot to think about at Kang Yeyoung’s words.
In the filming for the ‘Filial Piety Special’, Kang Dae-oh’s and Min Seung-yeon’s roles were very simple.
“We’ve reserved a suite, you see? You just need to relax there today and tomorrow before leaving.”
Min Seung-yeon asked just in case.
“Just Mom and Dad?”
“Me and all the staff here have also reserved rooms at this hotel. Not suites, though.”
Min Seung-yeon’s face was filled with a sense of burden.
“As Mom knows, I heard a suite alone costs tens of millions of won per night.”
Kang Dae-oh, as if it was the first time he heard it, gasped.
Because he had never imagined there would be such an expensive hotel just for a one-day stay.
However, Kang Yeyoung reassured them in a tone that told them not to worry.
“My unnies and I split the cost, so please don’t feel too burdened. And Mom. Our daughters earn good money, so what are you worrying about? Right, Dad?”
Kang Yeyoung requested an SOS from Kang Dae-oh.
Kang Dae-oh, having heard the specific inside story from his youngest daughter, let out a hearty laugh.
“That’s not wrong.”
Although it felt a bit like excessive filial piety.
Since they had already paid for the hotel stay.
For the sake of their daughters, what Kang Dae-oh and Min Seung-yeon could do was already decided.
It was to enjoy themselves thoroughly before leaving.
